Lucy Gettman on the 2018 Election and the Growing Number of Women Serving in Government Lucy Gettman is the Executive Director of Women in Government , a non-partisan, non-profit organization that advocates for women state legislators. Women in Government offers training for women who are planning to run for office, and support for women in office. They also hold professional development workshops.



Gettman was raised in Syracuse, New York. Gettman holds a BA in English from SUNY Cortland, and a dual MA in Public Administration and MA in Social Work from Ohio State University. She also holds a graduate certificate in Women, Politics, and Political Leadership from American University. Lucy's first government experience was working in the Ohio State House during graduate school. She then spent 3 years working in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Lucy had a long career lobbying in the education space at the National School Boards Association, representing 90,000 local school boards. Currently, she is also an Adjunct Professor at American University's Department of Public Affairs. She has spent the past two years as Executive Director for Women in Government. “Every job we ever have, all of us, can create opportunity for the future, and maybe when we least expect them because it happens 20 years later!”



Women in Government hosts an annual Future Women in Government conference where emerging leaders from colleges and communities gain mentorship from current women political leaders.
