Airsoft Propellant types,Pro's and Cons

Airsoft Propellant types,Pro's and Cons Right then you Orrible lot, This week on Burntwolf Airsoft I'm going to be taking a look at the different propellant types used to power airsoft guns and some of the pros and cons of each type.

Most airsoft guns are AEG's. These use a battery to power the gun. Not many drawbacks to this type of airsoft gun, hence why there are so common. Most of the problems with this type of gun come down to using the wrong battery type. With high volts causing the gun to burn out contacts and low volts causing the gun not to cycle.

Next up HPA's these use a high-pressure air tank to fire the gun. These often outrange there AEG counterparts however this is not always the case. The main drawbacks to this type of airsoft RIF are that HPA guns are rather expensive and the tank and line can sometimes be a hindrance to manoeuvrability. The other problem with this type of airsoft gun is that topping up the HPA tank can be rather difficult as a lot of sites don't have the equipment on hand. Meaning you will have to take a trip to your local paintball or scuba site in order to get them topped up

Now moving onto the gas guns, These are powered either by CO2 or by green gas, green gas I find is slightly better as they tend not to freeze their seals and make the gun unusable.green gas is also more stable than c02 and less pron to temperature fluctuations. Gas guns are normally used to power GGB guns and give a good sound and recoil when fired. The main draw back with these types of airsoft guns is the temperature, although red and black gas can be used to keep the green gas types working almost all year round in the extreme cold both sites can become unuseable

The oldest type of airsoft gun going is the springer, these use a spring to power the guns and are a great back up gun as you don't need to by anything to keep them going, just pic up and play. Mostly found in sniper rifles and shotguns, the main draw back to this type of airsoft gun is the slow rate of fire. Some types can also be stiff to cock and give you a bit of a sore wrist by the end of the day.

And that's a quick look at the different propellant types found at airsoft and a few pro's and cons of each
