Breaking News US|Australia ll Sydney celebrity hotspot Pelicano popular with Ed Sheeran to close A restaurant and bar popular with celebrities including Ed Sheeran and Mel Gibson is beingd to close after to a 'hostile takeover' from their landlord.Pelicano in Sydney's ritzy Double Bay will shut on December 28 despite becoming one of the city's most sought-after nightlife spots since opening in 2012.Other famous stars to have frequented the pop art-themed restaurant include Hollywood actor Gerard Butler, James Blunt and Cara Delevingne's sister Poppy. Pelicano co-owner Andrew Becher said their landlord was pushing them out but the building owners claim it is in need of urgent renovations.Mr Becher claimed the building's landlordd them out in a 'hostile takeover' even though the restaurant is thriving and still has six years remaining on its lease. He said there was a demolition clause in their tenancy contract which meant they could be given notice to leave if renovation of the 1960s-dated Gaden House was required.'The landlord who bought the property (is) very hostile in his takeover of properties,' Pelicano's founder told The Wentworth Courier.  Share this article Share The owner AMA Holdings, partly-owned by Hong Kong media mogul Walter Marr, has denied the claim their notice was 'hostile' and said they acted within the law.'Our client strenuously denies it has mounted a "hostile takeover' of the building,' the owner's lawyers said. The statement said work was needed to improve fire safety in Gaden House and to improve its structural integrity.'The existing tenants within the building were given sufficient notice they had to leave the building to allow those works to be carried out,' the statement added.Mr Becher said 22 people would lose their jobs as a result of Pelicano's closure. The closure comes after the historic modernist building's owners were met with a 2000-strong petition last year opposing their plan to add two levels of commercial floor space to Gaden House.Pelicano will be open to the public for the final time on December 21, before hosting a final private send-off a week later, according to Good Food.Daily Mail Australia has contacted AMA Holdings for further comment.   ● Subcribe:
