HYANNIS – [HN NOTES] – A woman was arrested for Operating Under the Influence after police responded to a bizarre head on collision on the access road to the Hyannis Transportation Center early this morning.

Shortly after bar closing, a Barnstable Police Officer heard a crash, and upon further investigation officers located the two damaged vehicles; what appeared to be a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS – with a solid metal exterior – nose-to-nose with a more current plastic coated Mazda SUV.

The female driver of the plastic coated Mazda SUV was telling officers the other driver had just suddenly driven right into her as she was trying to exit the area of the Transportation Center.

Meanwhile, the male driver of the Cranberry Red ’71 Chevelle SS told officers his side of the story, that the other driver had just backed into his Chevy as it was parked outside of a nearby watering hole… and that the plastic coated Mazda didn’t stick around, causing him to follow her in his Chevelle SS (which, by the way, typically comes with a factory two-barrel 350-cubic-inch V8 engine, certainly more than enough horsepower to track down a wayward plastic coated Mazda, IMHO…).

But let’s not quibble over details…

… and in an effort to save time, while still managing to blend pertinent points from both accounts, suffice it to say that somehow the two vehicles managed to go head on – metal vs. plastic – and officers were now blessed with the always enjoyable task of deciding what in the Wide World of Sports had just actually happened.

But wait, there was an additional little snare…

… and upon further investigation, officers decided to give both driver’s field sobriety tests. In short, and as you will see in the following HN Video, officers deemed the male driver of the ’71 Chevelle SS was not impaired, and that female driver of the plastic coated Mazda was…

The female driver was arrested for OUI, while the male driver will be summonsed for Operating to Endanger and was also advised calling 911 would have been a better plan…

… and to quote the late, great, everlasting Kurt Vonnegut,

“and so it goes…”
