Hong Kong polls draw record turnout after months of protests

Hong Kong polls draw record turnout after months of protests Voters turned out in record numbers to cast their ballots in Hong Kong's district council elections as the city recorded its highest turnout.
More than 2.8 million people - nearly 70 percent of the registered voters - cast their ballots.
More than 1,000 candidates are running for 452 district council seats.
More than a quarter of the councillors are also part of a large committee that votes for Hong Kong's chief executive.
This is the first election since the anti-government protests began in June, and is seen as a political test for embattled Chief Executive Carrie Lam's government.
Al Jazeera's Scott Heidler reports from Hong Kong.
