Pay As You Go Cartel - Flava FM 87.6 - Slimzee, Plague & Major Ace - UK Garage 2000

Artwork by Take Me Back Pirate Radio Archives. Recorded in 2000, this show was a one off guest slot on Flava FM who had recently established themselves as a UK Garage pirate on the 87.6 frequency. DJ Slimzee and the Pay As You Go crew had recently formed with Major Ace joining Rinse FM from Pure Magic FM 90.2. MCs Ace and Plague would pass the mic from hand to hand like a relay. This was smooth back to back MCing and they did a good job at keeping up a good pace.
DJ Slimzee was taking DJ Fonti's approach of playing other musical influences, dropping "You Can't Touch This" by MC Hammer and mixing a slowed down Drum & Bass tune with a Garage track (check 0:16:55). They were interesting times when different musical genres and styles crossed paths.
Rewinding back before this show, here's some history on about Pay As You Go. Earlier in September 1999, Slimzee and Plague had tried to form a crew called the SPP with MC Paco (check the channel out for a rare recording of them), but their efforts were short-lived, subsequently giving the opportunity for a collaboration with Major Ace, who initially came to Rinse MC to do a guest set with DJ Reaper (The DEA Project) from Pure Magic FM 90.2. It was then that Major hooked up with his childhood friend Slimzee and the rest was history. Note that Major Ace was previously on Rinse FM 91.8, around the mid 90s, as a Jungle MC under the name of MC Ace. The trio had a primetime slot on the newly restyled Rinse FM 100.3 which used to specifically play Drum & Bass music but they slowly began introducing Garage and after that there was no looking back. Things took off in big way.
This set was before MCs Gods Gift, Wiley and Maxwell D joined the crew and was whilst this Dizzy Rascal was still in high school. It is known that Pay As You Go became a unit after they recorded their hit track "Know We", that was followed up with the commercial success of "Champagne Dance" with Dom P. The channel would like to take time out to celebrate the life of the deceased Major Ace MC. Rest in Peace Sargent Major, a Garage and Grime legend.
