Jury 3D 2019 - ESMA (CGI Graduation Show)

Review of the jury day of the 2019 promotion of CG Animation Cinema and FX. After a screening of the films at the Gaumont Multiplexe in Montpellier, the jury unveiled its list of winners at an evening event.

Retour sur la journée de jury de la promotion 2019 de Cinéma d’Animation 3D et Effets Spéciaux. Après une projection des films au Gaumont Multiplexe de Montpellier, le jury a dévoilé son palmarès lors d’une soirée.

A whole panel of prestigious professionals accepted the invitation to enjoy the films and elect their favourites, with Erik Smitt – Director of Photography at Pixar – as chairman of the jury.


C’est tout un panel de prestigieux professionnels qui ont accepté l’invitation afin d’apprécier les films et d’élire leurs préférés, avec Erik Smitt – Directeur de la photographie chez Pixar – en qualité de président du jury :

A SPECIAL EVENT FOR A TURNING POINT IN THEIR LIVES….
The jury is always an important moment in the students’ lives. This event marks the end of an era but also the beginning of a new one.

It was on Thursday, September 5 that this very special day took place. First, in the morning, the jury members watched the films for the first time. Then, in the afternoon, a second screening was organized, this time in the presence of the students and their families. To end on a high note, all the participants gathered in the evening, in the wonderful setting of the Verchant site.

This year is even more special than the others because in 2018 there was no jury since the CG Animation Cinema and FX course changed its format from 3 years to 4 years, in order to better prepare students for the market requirements and the needs of the studios.

The new promotion was expected by the professionals and all the students rose to the challenge, setting the bar once again at a higher level! In all, 119 students, divided into groups of 5 to 7 people, participated in the development of 19 short films. Three of ESMA’s campuses were present: Montpellier, Nantes and Toulouse (Lyon will soon participate 😉 ).

UN ÉVÉNEMENT SPÉCIAL POUR UN TOURNANT DANS LEURS VIES…
Le jury représente toujours un moment important dans la vie des étudiants. Cet événement marque la fin d’une époque mais aussi le commencement d’une nouvelle.

C’est ce jeudi 5 septembre que cette journée si particulière s’est déroulée. Dans un premier temps, en matinée, les membres du jury ont visionné les films une première fois. Ensuite, dans l’après-midi, une seconde projection a été organisée, cette fois-ci en présence des étudiants et de leurs familles. Afin de finir en beauté, l’ensemble des participants s’est réuni en soirée, dans le formidable cadre que constitue le site de Verchant.

Cette année est encore plus particulière que les autres car en 2018 il n’y a pas eu de jury puisque la formation Cinéma d’Animation 3D et Effets Spéciaux a changé son format pour passer de 3 ans à 4 ans, afin de mieux préparer les étudiants aux exigences du marché et aux besoins des studios.

La nouvelles promotion se savait attendue par les professionnels et tous les étudiants ont relevé haut la main le défi, plaçant une nouvelle fois la barre à un degré supérieur ! En tout ce sont 119 étudiants, répartis en groupes de 5 à 7 personnes, qui ont participé à l’élaboration de 19 courts-métrages. Trois des campus de l’ESMA étaient présents : Montpellier, Nantes et Toulouse (Lyon participera bientôt 😉 ).
