There is a lot of controversy about whether or not you should take medication for depression. Plenty of critics from different sectors say that the medications don't help, they are not better than placebo, they are overprescribed, they are just big business for the pharmaceutical industry, maybe they even make people feel worse! Well despite all the critics I argue in this video that there is a place for antipressants in the treatment of depression. Yes, other things also help for depression and should not be overlooked: talk therapy, proper nutrition, sufficient sleep, cardiovascular exercise, connecting with friends, meaningful work, exposure to natural sunglight, supplements like Sam-E and St John's Wort, and vitamins like Vitamin D3. Yes, all these things do work and should be part of the treatment program for anyone struggling with depression (or anxiety or other mental / emotional health struggles). But medication is still very important for some people who are suffering. I explain more in the video.
If you think you might be depressed, I strongly encourage you to ignore all the critics and haters and get yourself an appointment with a competent psychiatrist who can evaluate you and tell you if trying a course of antidepressants may help you.
