Traditional recovery modalities often concentrate on things like “triggers” and environment, social groups and creating a “safe space” to stay sober within by narrowing ones’ experiences and interactions.
This approach has in many cases resulted in multiple failed attempts to maintain sobriety and in worse cases, encouraged a state of chronic relapse.
New, non-traditional, non 12 step, holistic approaches to alcohol and drug treatment recognize the effective development, or re-discovery, of the innate health and core resilience that abides in each of us just waiting to be rediscovered with a little bit of facilitating by an open-minded addiction counselor.
Although we’ve discovered so much more than we knew about addiction over the past decade, addiction is still considered a disease by most treatment centers, and the individual with an addiction to be sick.
We think it’s time to move beyond outdated perceptions and adapt treatments that take in the new brain science, and people’s awakening to their unbroken “I Am-ness” to go “Beyond Addiction.”
