My husband and I did an amazing 12 day tour with "Adventure Wild" through the Kimberleys, in the top of Western Australia and two of the days were spent in the Bungles, which are absolutely amazing to see - even more so than in all the photos I have seen over the years. It was on my "To Do List" for many years so with opportunity at hand I did their optional tour of taking a 42 minute helicopter flight with "Helispirit" over the Bungle Bungle Range to see, and capture, its amazing aerial view. The range occupies an area of 450 square kilometres (174 square miles in imperial measurement), and sprawls out in various formations and density. The tiger stripes look just as distinct from the air as from the ground and I am so pleased we walked into a couple of sections of the Bungles during the day. Known to the Aborigines of the region for many thousands of years the Bungles only became known to the rest of Australia (& the world) in 1983, after they were shown in a film (sorry don't know which one).
The Bungle Bungle Range, also known as Purnululu National Park is on the world heritage list. The word "Punululu" comes from the Aboriginal Gija people and means "fretting sands" - they are mainly sandstone.
We stayed at the Mabel Downs camping ground in the Bungle Range. Hope you enjoy the edited footage - I had 38 minutes of footage in total to edit so it was an arduous task to decide what to leave out, and then to select appropriate music from my vast collection. Our awesome tour guide Carmel gives a bit of detail about the Bungles during the walking section and I have included part of that because it was so interesting and I thought gives a bit of insight
