The defense tries to get your lawsuit dismissed.
They are doing everything they can to get it thrown out.
Legally, of course.

They ask the judge to dismiss your case.
They say you don't have a valid case.
They say that your doctor didn't violate the basic standards of good medical care.

They say that your doctor, even if he did violate the standard of care, didn't cause you harm.

Then they say that even if he was careless and his carelessness caused you injury, your injuries are not that bad.

The defense hires a medical expert to explain in exquisite detail why you don't have a valid case. Your attorney calls to tell you that the defense has submitted written papers to the judge to formally ask him to throw out your lawsuit. He tells you that the defense hired an expert to support the defense's claim.

Your lawyer tells you that he must oppose their arguments and must get his expert to submit a sworn statement that he believes you have a good case. You turn around and say "That's not good enough! I want a second expert and a third and a fourth to all say the same thing!"

You think that by having multiple experts, all saying the same thing, that will give greater weight to your argument that you have a good case, compared to the defense bringing in only one expert.
