Namaste! Enjoy this restorative yin practice for deep rest. Yin is a wonderful practice to enjoy to wind down for sleep. In this practice allow your mind to wander in a lucid state. Daydreaming and deep sleep states are so important for our mental health. Take time to process in this sleep-inducing practice.
We will hold our postures supported by props for 3-5 minutes. Long deep holds are akin to applying braces to the teeth. In order to attain more range of motion and flexibility, we must access, re-pattern and remove scar tissue. Yin yoga works at the level of our connective tissue. In order to access the connective tissue, we must bypass the muscle through disengaging. We do this through the support of props and just coming to our first edge. We do not strain or put stress or press ourselves into our poses in this practice.
In long deep holds hyaluronic acid is released in the body. In this way, yin restores our youthfulness.
You may find Yin yoga is particularly helpful in the contractive winter months when it is cold outside!
Yin yoga is a compliment to an active or Yang practice. It is not intended to be practiced alone.
