Governor Lonyangapuo declares war with KFS accusing it of issuing permits for people to cut trees

West Pokot Governor Prof John Lonyangapuo has declared war with Kenya forest service[KFS] accusing it issuing permits for people to sell and cut trees in forests within the County.
Lonyangapuo reiterated that he will arrest the officers sent from Nairobi to issue permits for cutting trees in the area leading to trees destruction. He said logging has contributed the forest cover in the County to be 4.4 % below the 10 % forest cover requirement.
Speaking yesterday in Kapenguria while launching a free distribution of 150,000 tree seedlings under the Ministry of Water and Environment, Lonyangapuo said the seedlings will be distributed across 20 wards, schools, churches and youth groups and individuals to conserve the environment in the County.
